Making Wishes Come True

hall-shot

By W Kemp

As children and even as adults we enjoy sitting back and letting our minds wonder to a wonderful fantasy world filled with wishes and dreams. As adults, we sometime want to be the whimsical Fairy Godmother or Godfather or maybe even Gilda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz granting wishes and making dreams come true.

I have to commend the work that Dennis Sampier from the Detroit Pistons and his community relations team for putting together the Make-A-Wish telethon in about 45 days. It started with a call asking me if we were in…can we (Quicken Loans) make wishes come true for two wonderful little girls who were dreaming of going to Quicken Loans with their families. How could I say no?

Not only did we donate $10,000 to ensure that these girls could go to Disney World, we also donated two Fathead wall graphics to decorate their rooms with, which added a little something special to their gift.  But that’s not all… we also had more than 20 team members from Quicken Loans, Fathead, In-House Realty and our Mortgage Insiders team help make wishes come true by manning phones at the Make-A-Wish telethon.

telethonOur Community DIFF team worked 3 telethon shifts at the Palace during the Detroit Pistons vs. the San Antonio Spurs games to help Make-A-Wish and the Pistons Palace Foundation continue to grant wishes. We were running, answering phones, switching volunteers in and out and laughing. By the end of the night we had helped Make-A-Wish exceed their goal of granting 50 wishes by raising more than $400,000. Our volunteers are still talking about that night and the people they spoke with who wanted to be a part of granting a Wishes and Making Dreams come true…

Yep, I have been doing this type of work for over 10 years and there are still times it chokes me up. Huge loving thanks to my wonderful DIFF Makers and our Leadership team (Patrick McInnis and Todd Lunsford) who allowed us to make dream come true.
